Using locally harvested plant fibres, create a Stitched basket with sculptural fibre artist and basket weaver Caroline Hawkins.
Choose from a variety of plant fibres to form the ‘core’, which is then ‘Coiled’ and stitched together with hemp twine. Step by step guidance will be offered in preparing the materials, starting, shaping and finishing your basket.
Included in the workshop, Caroline will offer advice on gathering, storing and preparing your own plant fibres, as well as discussion on the traditions behind basket weaving practices around the globe.
Based on the Surf Coast, Caroline offers workshops in basket weaving and ephemeral art and regularly exhibits her fibre-art sculptural works. Her workshops offer a supportive environment for participants to discover more about being at one with the natural world.
